Efficiency Improvement Scheme for PV Emulator Based on a Physical Equivalent PV-Cell Model

Recently, a photovoltaic (PV) emulator is proposed which based on combination of constant current source and one-diode model. Its superior dynamic performance compatible with that real PV system. Although it power efficient at the maximum point (MPP), suffers from high loss around open-circuit voltage (OCV) operation condition. The can be used for system analysis testing, such as tracking (MPPT). This paper presents new switching circuit placed in parallel diode string to minimize loss. consists two-switch non-inverting buck-boost DC/DC converter. When operating moves region region, converter, more efficient, switches replace seamlessly maintain emulator. Experimental results show worst case scenario, i.e. OCV condition, efficiency temperature solution reach 81.47% 30.1 °C respectively, compared 2.8% 94.2 respectively only case. In terms response, lags panel by 3.5 ms 120 commercial under 30% 60% insolation change test.
